As a world renowned track and field athlete, Carl won 9 gold Olympic medals and 10 World Championships medals. With a career that spanned from 1979 when he first achieved a world ranking to 1996 when he won his last gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics, Carl's performance in sprinting and the long-jump is legendary. He was voted "Sportsman of the Century" by the International Olympic Committee and was named "Olympian of the Century" by Sports Illustrated.
